Atkinson, Thomas (1820-24)

Atkinson, Thomas, 38 and 39 Ludgate Hill, London, cm, u and undertaker (1820–24). Initially trading as Loader & Atkinson. The premises were at the corner of the ‘Belle Sauvage’, an important London coaching inn. A mahogany folding leaf table is known with their label. [Advert. in Apollo, February 1961] The practice of labelling furniture continued after 1823 when Atkinson was trading under his own name only, and a dining chair and a pedestal card table with D-shaped top are known (Fig. 18).
