British & Irish Furniture Makers Online Conference, 17 Oct 2019

Submitted by Laurie Lindey on Wed, 24/07/2019 - 12:24

We’re holding a conference on the afternoon of the 17th of October in the University of London, followed by a reception, to give our BIFMO audience the opportunity to discover and engage with our online resource and participate in a discussion about future developmental plans. The four-hour conference will include brief presentations from three members of BIFMO staff describing the work they are carrying out. Thereafter, Robert Leath, vice-president of collections and research at the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA), will speak about the importance of developing trans-Atlantic research to comprehensively document American furniture makers who immigrated from Britain and Ireland in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This will be followed by an informal round table discussion – opened to the audience – to examine the value of BIFMO and the ways the project might develop. The conference is sponsored by the Foyle Foundation and free of charge. Booking is essential so please visit this site to register: https://www.history.ac.uk/events/event/20021
